BJFEZ Reaches Out to Korean Companies in China to Identify New Investment Opportunities

 

- Listening session with Korean businesses in Shanghai to assess local operating conditions; potential demand for returning investment to Korea, expansion investment, and logistics hub relocation explored

- BJFEZ presents investment environment including logistics competitiveness and locational advantages of the Busan Jinhae Free Economic Zone

 

On June 5, Busan Jinhae Free Economic Zone Authority (Commissioner Park Sung-ho; hereinafter "BJFEZ") held a business dialogue session in Shanghai, China, with representatives from the Korean Chamber of Commerce in China, Shanghai (KOCHAM Shanghai) and the Gyeongnam Province Shanghai Liaison Office to assess the investment trends of Korean companies operating in China.

 

The meeting was organized to gain firsthand insight into the operating conditions facing Korean businesses in Shanghai and surrounding areas, and to identify potential investment demand in areas such as repatriation of investment to Korea, expansion investment within Korea, and logistics hub relocation.

 

Attendees included representatives from BJFEZ, the Gyeongnam Province Shanghai Liaison Office, and KOCHAM Shanghai. From KOCHAM Shanghai, Vice Presidents Bong Hyeon-jun, Park Gye-ju, and Hong Seok-gyeong, along with Director Kim Young, Section Chief Ji Hong-sun, and Logistics Association Chairman Kim Deok-gi, participated in the discussion and shared perspectives on the business conditions and investment interests of Korean companies in China.

 

Participants exchanged views on the changing business environment in China and the latest investment trends among Korean companies. Key topics included identifying companies with potential investment interest, preliminary networking opportunities, operational challenges faced by Korean businesses in Shanghai, and the feasibility of repatriation of investment, expansion investment, and logistics hub relocation.

 

KOCHAM Shanghai is an economic and exchange organization representing Korean companies, institutions, and the Korean expatriate community in the Shanghai region. It supports networking among Korean businesses operating in Shanghai and surrounding areas, and provides services including legal consultation, job placement information, product promotion, and visa assistance for both businesses and residents. The Chamber is currently led by President Tak Jong-han, CEO of Shanghai Miele International Trading Co., Ltd., and its membership comprises representative offices, liaison offices, and branches of Korean companies in China, as well as Korean-affiliated corporate bodies and individual members.

 

At the meeting, BJFEZ presented the logistics competitiveness and locational advantages of the Busan Jinhae Free Economic Zone, anchored by Busan New Port and Jinhae New Port, along with the investment environment available to companies in the manufacturing, logistics, and distribution sectors. BJFEZ also outlined plans to connect the supply chain restructuring needs, diversification of operational bases, and logistics optimization needs of Korean companies in China to its future investment attraction activities.

 

Commissioner Park Sung-ho stated, "Korean companies in China are actively exploring new investment strategies amid the global supply chain restructuring and shifting local business conditions. Building on this meeting, we will strengthen our network with KOCHAM Shanghai and work to uncover the genuine investment needs of Korean companies in China, turning them into concrete investment results."
