The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy(MTIE) approved the 「2nd phase of the Myeongji District Development Plan」 and BJFEZ to commence construction this year.

● The MTIE FEZ Committee passed the revised development plan for Myeongji District
● The ‘Revised 2nd-phase plan’ consists of 4 themes
● Myeongji International City, the global business city with ideal business environment and eco-friendly residential area

Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone(BJFEZ) Authority said, “The revision to the second phase development plan for the Myeongji District in the BJFEZ, a project being managed by the LH, was approved at the 122nd FEZ Committee meeting of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy(MTIE).”

Myeongji District Development Plan, a large-scale development project on an area of 6.4 million㎡ in the Myeongji 1-dong, Gangseo-gu, which is a part of the BJFEZ, is divided into two phases. The first-phase construction on a 4.5 million㎡ site was commenced in 2010 and is now almost completed. And the second-phase plan went through a revision process at the FEZ Advisory Committee and the MTIE Advisory Committee meetings.

The BJFEZ Authority reexamined and changed the second-phase plan to turn the West Busan area into an international city by implementing specialized strategies, which include developing waterfront areas and park areas.

The revised second-phase plan consists of four themes:
✔ Waterfront-friendly
✔ Park-friendly
✔ Pedestrian-friendly
✔ Architectural Diversity

As for the first theme, the Myeongji District will have a 2.4km-long artificial waterway in its international business area, which is located next to the sea, as well as natural waterside areas and eco-friendly water circulation system. As a result, the district will become a waterfront-friendly city comparable to Songdo and Cheongna International City in Incheon.

Secondly, a ‘Central Park’ will be designed through an international design competition and will be created along with a ‘Business Park’ linked to the artificial waterway. Thus several additional parks for the residents will make Myeongji International City not only business-friendly but eco-friendly as well.

To build a pedestrian-friendly city, a 2.2km-long pedestrian passage along the artificial waterway will be created in addition to other types of roads such as pedestrian/vehicular access roads, public pedestrian passages, and pedestrian-only roads.

Myeongji International City will have rich architectural diversity with waterfront business areas, landmark skyscrapers, and low-rise complex facilities.

In addition, in line with the government’s policy to disallow for-profit foreign hospitals, the site designated for foreign medical institution in Myeongji District is no longer exclusive to foreign hospitals. In other words, local hospitals are welcome to join the District.

The BJFEZ Authority aims to start the second-phase construction this year through rapid approval of the execution plan in the upcoming second half of the year. Once the construction is completed by 2025, Myeongji District will become a central city of the West Busan, where 80,000 people reside.
