United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) Focus Attention on Busan New Port

As part of the Ministerial Conference on Transport 2006, this year held in Busan from November 6-11, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) has been focusing particular attention on the Busan New Port, which falls within the boundaries of the Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone Authority.

An international conference held every five years in varying countries, the ministerial gathering focuses on the assessment of state transportation and its response in relation to global forums. This year’s conference attendees have been especially interested in the Busan New Port and its future capabilities.

Officially opened in January 2006, the Busan New Port will open three additional berths in January 2007, totaling in 6 operating container berths. Construction progress will continue until a total of 30 container berths are completed by 2011.

UNESCAP delegates and related officials have been visiting the Busan New Port and learning about the role of the Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone Authority, its various projects, the development progress of the new port and investor incentives offered to those investing within the free economic zone.
