Recent FDI Achievements and Promotional Activities

 

The ever-popular Busan-Science & Industrial Park saw yet another foreign investment this time worth US $29 million signed with Jotun Ltd., a paint and coating manufacturer specializing in paints used for housing, ships and industry purposes. An investment Memorandum of Understanding was signed in Frankfurt, Germany in November bringing the total foreign-invested companies within the park to 16, with a US $271 million total of FDI.

 

In other news, the Authority recently attended the annual IBC Forum which was held this year in Dubai, a city which serves as a model for Korea in terms of rapid development and the role of the area’s Jebel Ali Free Zone, as well as the Jebel Ali Port. Forum participants discussed issues of concern regarding the development of the BJFEZ and Authority members toured the Jebel Ali Port to benchmark its activities in relation to the Jebel Ali Free Zone.

 

As a way to further promote the investment opportunities within the BJFEZ, the Authority sent delegations to an Investor Relations seminar in Fukuoka and Osaka, Japan where representatives met with interest Japanese investors. Some of the major projects marketed by the Authority included the Myeongji New International City development project, the Ungdong tourism & leisure complex and other investment opportunities.

 

In an effort to attract American investors, the BJFEZ Authority will host members from the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) in Korea for a two day site tour of the zone where participants will learn more about the investment projects overseen by the Authority. The tour comes fresh off the heels of a recent gathering which was attended by members of the Seoul Japan club which saw around 30 CEOs of Japanese companies in attendance.
