Moon-hee Kim begins term as the second Commissioner of the Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone Authority

As the Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone (BJFEZ) continues to make headway toward its goal of becoming an international business and logistics nexus in Northeast Asia, Moon-hee Kim has been named the new Commissioner of the zone’s Authority, replacing out-going head Soo-Man Chang.

A Gyeongnam native, Commissioner Kim, 55, began his three year term in the position on March 27. A former student of Georgetown University’s Graduate School of Politics, Kim also holds an MA in Politics from Pusan National University and a PhD in Administration from Chung-Ang University.

After passing the 4^th Higher Legislative Civil Service Examination in 1979, Commissioner Kim has served on numerous committees for the National Assembly including a position as researcher for the Education, Culture and Public Information Committee, Senior Staff Director for the Committee of Finance and Economy, and Senior Staff Director for the Committee of Culture & Tourism.

He has also worked as a visiting professor at Chung-Ang University’s graduate school.

As the new Commissioner of the Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone Authority, Kim is determined to expedite the development of various ongoing projects within the BJFEZ as well as the attraction of FDI through effectively tackling and eliminating a number of obstacles faced by the BJFEZ Authority and foreign investors. This includes softening the currently strict regulations involved in the investment process and eliminating existing red tape. He also plans to expand the designated development site within the free economic zone during his three-year tenure as Commissioner.

The Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone was established in 2003 with the aim of capitalizing on its logistics capabilities to attract additional FDI into the area and to serve as a growth engine for Southeastern Korea’s economy.
