Leading Chinese shipbuilding parts manufacturer recognizes advantages of the Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone

Combining Korea’s longstanding tradition of shipbuilding excellence and China’s emerging advancement in marine manufacturing, the Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone Authority signed a winning investment Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) worth US $10 million with S.F.S. Ltd., a Chinese shipbuilding parts company which will lease space within the Busan Science & Industrial Park.

Based out of Shanghai and established in 1999, S.F.S. Ltd., specializes in manufacturing parts such as ship rotor shafts, filter silencers, and expansion rings. The recently signed MOU recognizes S.F.S. Ltd.’s status as a joint venture company formation with Korean company SHINSAEGI INT'L CORP. which also specializes in the production of high-performance shipbuilding parts. By 2009, the new JV company will establish a manufacturing factory within the Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone.

Once in operation, the company will then export products to Europe, Japan and China in addition to filling domestic orders. The presence of the new shipbuilding parts company within the Busan Science and Industrial Park is expected to result in increased exports within the Korean shipbuilding parts manufacturing industry.

This latest investment brings the total FDI amount into the Foreign Investment Zone of the Busan Science & Industrial Park to US $234 million.
