FAU opens first overseas branch campus/R&D center

 

May 10th-300 guests including Deputy-Mayor Mr. Jeong Nak-gyeong were present at the official opening of Friedrich Alexander University of Eerlangen-Nuremberg's first overseas branch campus/R&D Center in the Busan Techno Park of the Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone.

 

Starting in September 2010, the campus will offer Masters Programs in Chemical Engineering and Bio-Engineering-in 8 fields-with plans to recruit 50 students per semester.

 

FAU founded in 1742, moved to its current location in Eerlangen-Nuremberg in Bavaria, Germany in 1743. It is widely recognized as a pioneer among German universities conducting collaborative efforts with the private sector. Siemens, Bayer and other leading German multi-national corporations have participated as partners in developing products for the market place.

 

Financing for the campus was jointly conducted with FAU of Eerlangen-Nuremberg, Ministry of Knowledge Economy as well as Busan Metropolitan City Hall. The branch campus is widely expected to serve as an anchor facility to encourage further clustering of more foreign universities as well as R&D centers into the FEZ.

BJFEZ-Praxair $40 million MOU

 

May 4th-The FEZ's Mieum Parts and Materials Industrial Complex has attracted the interest of American multi-national giant  corporation, Praxair. The MNC specializes in atmospheric, process and specialty gases for industry.

 

The global company-operating in over 30 countries-signed an MOU valued at US $40 million to build a 33,000 m2 production facility inside the BJFEZ's Mieum Parts and Materials Industrial Park with operations slated to begin in 2013.

 

June Events

 

Japan's multi-billion dollar Tsubakimoto Chain Co. targets BJFEZ

 

June 18th-BJFEZ Commissioner Ha Myeng-geun along with Authority staff, as  part of a Japanese road show, will participate in an MOU signing ceremony with the Tsubakimoto Chain Co. to be held at the Teikoku hotel in Tokyo, Japan.

 

Taking part in the ceremony will be Choi Kyung-hwan, the current Minister of the Ministry of Knowledge Economy as well as Tsubakimoto Chain Co.'s President, Mr. Osa Isamo. The Tsubakimoto Chain Co. is a well-known auto-parts giant supplying global auto companies such as Toyota, Tsubakimoto Chain Co. as of the 1st qaurter of 2010 reported total revenues of just over US$1.2 billion.

 

The US $25 million MOU proposes the establishment of a 25,815 m2 auto-parts production facility located in the Nammoon district's Parts and Materials Industrial Complex located in the Ungdong area of the BJFEZ.
