Tsubakimoto Chain Co. signs $25 million MOU

June 18th –BJFEZA Commissioner Ha Myeng-keun along with Choi Kyung-hwan, current Minister for the Ministry of Knowledge, Economy attended an MOU signing ceremony in Tokyo. The ceremony celebrated the proposal by both the BJFEZ Authority and the Tsubakimoto Chain Co. of Japan.

The MOU valued at US$ 25 million calls for the construction of a 25,815 m2 auto parts manufacturing facility in the Nammoon Parts and Materials Industrial Park located in the Ungdong district of the BJFEZ.

The Tsubakimoto Chain Co. is a well known multi-billion dollar Japanese auto-parts company supplying auto giants like Toyota.

This MOU signing follows intensive rounds of road shows courting the Japanese auto-parts industry; Japanese investment in total IFDI (Inward Foreign Direct Investment) flows into the FEZ

account for over one-quarter in dollar terms since 2004. While in MOU terms, Japanese contributions account for 26% of the total proposed projects. Japanese investors are crucial to the on-going development of the Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone.

July Events

In mid-July Kyushu region Japanese businesses ranging from financial institutions, real estate developers to the mechanical industries-shipbuilding auto and auto-parts- will be conducting a tour of the BJFEZ for possible future investment.

The fifty plus group will tour the BJFEZ Vision Hall, as well as visit the Jisa and Myeongji areas; Jisa area offers Hwajeon and Mieum districts, excellent locations near the soon to be completed Goeje fixed-link which will reduce the travel time from Busan to Goeje’s shipyards from the current two and half hours to less than forty-five minutes. Mieum district’s Parts and Materials Industrial Park offers cheaply priced land available by rental agreements at a competitive price while Myeongji will be the location for an international medical complex as well as a location for foreign schools and other services.

The FEZ’s strategic location near the world’s 5th largest container port and close proximity to Goeje Island, the heart of Korea’s shipbuilding industry, is ready for multi-faceted development across all economic sectors.

July 20th, 2010-The BJFEZ Authority will be in Germany-Europe’s largest and leading exporter of machinery, vehicles, chemicals and household equipment. In bi-lateral trade terms Germany and South Korea share a zeal for value-added manufacturing which is reflected in the growing interest of German companies seeking to cement their position in the Asian market place by looking at Korea as their base of operations for Northeast Asia.

To capitalize on this growing trend, the BJFEZA is organizing a two city German road show with stops in Dusseldorf and Nuremberg-home of Friedrich Alexander University of Eerlangen-Nuremberg which opened its first overseas branch campus in the BJFEZ-to build awareness of the South-east industrial belt which has played a pivotal role in Korea’s spectacular economic growth over the last 60 years.
