- Florida International University, a Leading Research University Visits BJFEZ

- BJFEZ Strengthens Global Network through engagement with Public Research University from the United States

 

On March 6, The Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone Authority (Commissioner Park Sung-ho, hereafter referred to as ‘the BJFEZ Authority’) welcomed nearly 40 faculty members and students of Business School from Florida International University (FIU) in the United States.

 

The purpose of their visit was to explore the key projects and investment environment of BJFEZ as part of their field study program.

Florida International University (FIU) is a world-class public research university founded in 1965, located in the Southeastern United States. FIU has grown to become the seventh-largest research university in the United States. Particularly, the College of Business is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International). According to U.S. News & World Report, the undergraduate international business program ranked eleventh in the nation, while the Graduate School of Business ranked seventh for its International MBA.

 

The delegation attended a briefing at the BJFEZ Promotion Hall where they learned about the history and development process of the BJFEZ. They then received an explanation of the current status of the investment and economic strengths, followed by a Q&A session. In particular, the delegation focused on a tri-port logistics Infrastructure which integrates ports, airports and railways as well as the surrounding industrial complexes.

 

Director of the Investment Promotion Division 2, who led the briefing for the delegation stated “We have tailored our presentation and on-site tour to allow participants to experience the investment environment of the BJFEZ firsthand.” She further emphasized “We will actively support efforts to explore potential collaboration by conveying how the integration of logistics including ports and railways provides an optimal business environment for global companies.”

 

After the briefing, the delegation visited the Busan New Port Promotion Hall, where they learned about the competitiveness of Busan Port as a global transshipment hub and current operations of the key terminals. Busan New Port has established itself as a world-class logistics hub and continues to strengthen its influence in the Asia-Pacific market.

 

Park Sung-ho, Commissioner of the BJFEZ Authority declared “We hope this visit will serve as an opportunity to showcase the competitiveness of our free economic zone and further strengthen cooperation with overseas universities and research institutions.” He added, "We will continue to expand international collaborations to establish BJFEZ as a global logistics and business hub.”
