Kim Ki-Young, the 8th Commissioner of BJFEZ

Warmest Welcome for Kim Ki-Young,

the new commissioner of BJFEZ!

BJFEZ has started the year with our new commissioner, Kim Ki-Young.

In the interview with Busan Financial News, the new Commissioner of BJFEZ has revealed his plans as the new leader of one of the most competitive free zones in the world.

To attract more investments from global companies with great growth potential, BJFEZ will begin to hold a regular strategic meeting presided over by the Commissioner.

The New Commissioner also mentioned the difficulties that companies encounter the most when investing―complicated administrative procedures and regulations along with taxation and labor management―and did not forget to express his determination to solve them.

“ We will do our best to make BJFEZ the best place for business activities.

Furthermore, the new leader of BJFEZ shared four major strategies that the authority has planned.

Strengthening BJFEZ’s role as the Asian hub for data centers

Developing the base for the medical/bio-related industries

Attracting high-value-added logistics companies

Establishing a tourism & leisure complex with high standards of service

BJFEZ has the largest data center complex in Korea where the data centers of Microsoft, OneAsia, and LG are located.

There will be endless growth potential for data convergence industry when these data centers and existing industries converge in the future.

With the attraction of BJFEZ’s first medical/bio R&D center IDC(Innovative Discovery Centre), the R&D Centre of Prestige Biopharma, BJFEZ is set to create a medical/bio-friendly environment to develop a firm business base for medical/bio-related industries.

In addition, BJFEZ’s manufacturing and logistics industry base is anticipated to grow constantly as BJFEZ offers the optimal logistics infrastructure of air, sea, and land also known as the Logistics Tri-Port.

BJFEZ has a great advantage geopolitically. We are the gateway connecting the Pacific Ocean and the Eurasian Continent with easy access to huge marketplaces such as China, Japan, India, and Southeast Asian countries. ”

Busan Port, the world’s 7th largest port in terms of container volume, will be expanded from 23 berths to 60 berths by 2040. With the expansion, Busan Port is expected to be the world’s top 3 ports, which leads to the further development of the distriparks. As of now, most of the sites in BJFEZ’s distriparks are already occupied with tenant companies, however, new business opportunities open for our future partners as BJFEZ’s distriparks continuously expand.

Last but not least, BJFEZ’s new commissioner emphasized the potential that BJFEZ has as a holiday destination.

BJFEZ is located near the southern coast of Korea, a place full of natural and cultural heritage. The exquisite natural landscape, as well as various leisure, social and cultural activities, promise BJFEZ to be the right place for the tourism and leisure industry.
