BJFEZ Establishes a Core of Logistics and Businesses, BTS (BJFEZ Tri-port Silk Road)

◈ BJFEZ will construct an expressway network to establish beltways stretching in all directions.

The Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone Authority (hereafter referred to as ‘the BJFEZ Authority') has endeavored to conduct the construction of the 'access road to Ungdong District,' connecting Ungdong District (Busan New Port hinterland) to National Road No. 2 for the establishment of BTS (BJFEZ Tri-port Silk Road) encompassing the BJFEZ.

The BJFEZ Authority has propelled construction projects to build expressways, called BTS (BJFEZ Tri-port Silk Road), linking BJFEZ, including roads ▲ from Sosa to Noksan, ▲ from Seokdong to Sosa, ▲ access road to Nammoon District, ▲ northern expressways in Ungdong District, ▲ access road to Ungdong District.

The access road to Ungdong District project was initiated for a six-lane road with a 0.89 km length in 2017, with a budget of KRW 34.7 billion. However, as remains and relics in Jepo had been found in the excavation research, the Cultural Heritage Administration suspended the construction to preserve the founded remains. The BJFEZ Authority has selected the new routes with the supplemental design and consultation with the Cultural Heritage Administration and prepared to resume the project, completed by 2026, such as fair compensation for eminent domain.

The completion of the entire expressways around BJFEZ, after the construction project of the access road to Undong District is finished, will reduce the time from Ungdong District to Changwon by 20 minutes and the distance by 9 km.

These expressways will respond to changing transportation demands such as Jinhae New Port in advance, becoming a steppingstone to position BJFEZ as a strategic point for the largest Northeast Asian logistics hub and an outpost of future advanced industries.

An official from the BJFEZ Authority said, “When the expressways around BJFEZ, BTS (BJFEZ Tri-port Silk Road) are completed, the ways will serve as the foundation not only for seamless logistics infrastructure encompassing Gimhae International Airport, Busan New Port, New Port hinterland railway stations but also for the establishment of a mega tri-port based on the coming Jinhae New Port, Gadeok New Airport, and Eurasia continent railways.”
