BJFEZ Authority Presents a Roadmap to Nurture the Complex Logistics Industry Reflecting ESG

The Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone Authority (Commissioner Kim Ki Young, hereafter referred to as 'BJFEZ  Authority')hosted a final report session on commissioned research to nurture one of the core industries, complex logistics & transport industries, in the main conference room of the BJFEZ Authority building on August 28. 

Kim Ki-young, Commissioner of BJFEZ Authority, government officials, and researchers from the Busan Development Institute, who commissioned the research, totaling 20 participants, monitored the final results of commissioned research to foster strategic industries. They identified priority projects by promoting relevant industries, including value-added logistics and manufacturing in the port hinterland.

The BJFEZ Authority commenced the commissioned research to facilitate complex logistics and port industries, analyzing global logistics environments and port industries, and determining actions in December of last year.

The research highlights four sub-strategies, ▲ high-value-added, ▲ safety (serious accidents), ▲ ESG (environment), ▲ governance, concrete assignments, and policies under the vision of positioning BJFEZ as a hub for value-added logistics.

Moreover, the research will help the BJFEZ Authority nurture logistics industries by presenting roadmaps, including short-term programs to long-term assignments that cover deregulations, digital transformation strategies, programs to build a safe work environment in logistics sectors, and energy reduction on-site to add more value to the logistics industry.

Based on the discussed assignments, the BJFEZ Authority will actively reflect short-term basis programs for next year’s budget and initiate long-term projects with cooperation among government ministries, Busan and Jinhae cities, and relevant institutions, making them visible.

Kim Ki-young, Commissioner of BJFEZ Authority, stated, “The roles of the Authority will be more important thanks to not only Busan Port, the 2^nd largest transshipment port in the world but also the completion of port and aviation logistics infrastructure with Jinhae New Port and Gadeok International Airport built in the future. The BJFEZ Authority will closely review the action plans based on the research to drive the growth of tenant companies and deregulate to create high value in logistics, contributing to the local economy.”
